Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM

Review Date: Apr 9, 2011 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,499.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Compact, Lightweight, Weather sealed, Fast autofocus, excellent color & contrast, beautifully smooth bokeh, Macro, Sharp wide open
None for me

Yeah yeah I know, I'm one of those who laughed at this lens when Canon announced it's release. I thought who's going to buy this lens. Well after thinking about it's advantages, and going down and trying one out, I was totally blown away by this lens. In fact, I can't find a single fault with it now. It's lightweight for travel, great focal range, extremely sharp wide open, and when using the MFD produces beautifully creamy bokeh. I'm not laughing anymore...I'm smiling. This is my new walk around lens. Can't find any faults with it, and would highly recommend this lens to anyone thinking about it.

Canon EOS 1D Mark II N

Review Date: Mar 13, 2011 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,325.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: 1D build, AF system, Image Quality
Two-handed menu system.

I'm on my third I guess it's time to write a review. I've sold my other two because of financial constraints, not because of issues with this particular model! This is one of those cameras I can't live without, like my 5D classic. I had the funds to purchase a MKIII, but went back to a 1DMKIIN. Why....Image quality and superior AF. Like my 5D classic, the images that come out of this camera are stunning, and the AF is spot on. The build of the 1D bodies is addicting, so please be forewarned. It helps balance out heavy lenses, and is built like a brick. Excellent weather sealing, as I've used mine in a mild rain with no problems. The two-handed menu system takes some getting use to, but this is not a major negative! Don't pass on one because of this.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

Review Date: Mar 13, 2011 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $2,300.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: 4-stop IS, Color, Contrast, Sharp, Sharp, Sharp, & Sharp

Coming from a very nice copy of the Mark I version, I was a little nervous about this purchase. Not for long. This lens won me over quick. Tested it against my 85 1.8, 100 f2, 135 L, all excellent copies in there own right. The 70-200 MKII had better color, contrast, and was just as sharp as these primes! The only reason for keeping the primes after testing them against the 70-200 is that they're faster....that's it. The 4-stop IS is amazing. It's pricey but worth it!
