Outstanding for a "carry lens". Considering the price, the clarity is unreal! I am amazed at some of the new DX product Nikon has produced for users. Nikon and Canon .....You can't go wrong.

I feel badly for the users who gave this lens a 3 and a 5 rating. It seems obvious they simply received bad copies. I have owned more than 12 of Nikon's highest quality lens's. I believe this lens, especially considering price, is an absolute winner. For, the most part, I use it as my carry lens. And I find it does Great Macro work. Don't let anyone fool you! If you get a good copy, you will not be disappointed with the performance of this Great Kit Lens. I, also, own the non-VR version and I see little difference, if any, except maybe $100 less in cost. Very difficult to beat this "little baby" for the money.

I have need for an extremely sharp Macro lens. This lens suits all my total needs! Fantastic detail & Good Contrast. It is presently being utilized 100% on my Nikon D/40. You cannot go wrong with this lens for close up work. Also, great for portraits!

For a daily carry lens, in this price range, it's unbeatable. I have owned the lens for over a year after purchasing "as slightly" used off Ebay. I use it almost daily and truly enjoy it.
