Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro

Review Date: Dec 26, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $330.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: One of the best price/performance ration (only Canon 50 1.8 wins here) nice colours, usually very good contrast and sharpness, very fast AF
Cons:
Loud AF, inconsistent contrast and strange flare sometimes.

Very cheap, sharp and with great colours. It produces sometimes strange results with high flare artefacts, low contrast, but it's quite rare. For the price you pay you cant have absolutely any complaints. If you dont want to spend at least 3-5x the price for marginally better performance (I used HSM version and 24-70L) you cant go wrong with it.
Strange thing I noticed it has better light than my 24-70L, meaning my old 20D was metering 1/3 stop lower, as if it was 2.5f (without being underexposed). I wonder if anyone else has same experience.

Review Date: Dec 26, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,000.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Simply everything - sharpness, bokeh, contract, colour rendition...
Cons:
Hmm... let me think... none?! Well, could be a bit cheaper and have IS but hey, I cant have any serious complaints about this marvellous lens.

The best lens I have ever owned or used. Superfast autofocus, great sharpness, beautiful colours, lightweight, small, well balanced on my 5D II. I personally wouldnt need IS too much (naturally, that feature might be useful in some situations, but the lens is hand-holdable even in poor lighting).

Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM

Review Date: Dec 14, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $500.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: The best picture quality among 50's for Canon. Great colour rendition, contrast, resolution, AF speed and accuracy.
Cons:
Sometimes inconsistent colours and contrast between the shots. Some versions of this lens have problems with focus - service fixes it easily. Uncommon filter size for 50mm lense (huge I mean).

If not for some well known problems with AF on Sigma lenses - a perfect 50mm lense. okok - it could have weather sealing, small filter size, more consistent colours, less weight, be cheaper than Canon 1.4, but c'mon that's the best 50 on the market.
