Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM

Review Date: May 6, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $550.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Good image quality, good build quality, fast focus, good price, very good colours, constant results, unbelivable sharp at 20mm .....AND IT'S WIDEEEEEE!!!!!!.... MORE THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED!!!
Cons:
Front lens cup is cheap... and can't be attached when hood is on... thats all..... great lens !!!

I happened to post a sharpnes test of this lens at FM just after I got one of the first glass that reachad my country in August 2005.
As a wideangle maniac I just love it. 2mm between 12 and 10 do counts for me... I like constant results this lens gives... just go and buy it... WIDE IS BETTER!!!

Review Date: Oct 27, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,000.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Ergonomy, intuitive "Nikon feel", amazing metering system & response/startup speed!!! Very good AF. It weights "plastic" but feels metal. Free LCD cover.
Cons:
Needs some Neat Image at higher iso (especially if underexposed), but after this files looks not worse than from "C" which has onboard NR (try yourself). Free processing software is just a gadget & a serious one is too expensive... Nikon showed it's back here...

It's year now that I bought it with 24-120 VR. I'm no more than adv-amateur & my review is from that perspective.
For me DSLR's and D-photography is the most wonderfull thing that happened in photography recently!!! And D70 as part of it, beeing my first DSLR is simply a dream camera!!! I still have much to grow up to IT...
You can find more detailed reviews on it elswere so let me just say I'm 110% satisfied with it.
If you are an adv-amateur and don't have overexaggerated expectations - get one, and simply make great pics's!!!

It really has an outstanding almost fool-proof-1005-zone-colour-sensitive light-metering system that causes me shame almost every time I try to override it... (same with flash - but I don't use it that much).

Canon 20D was 50% more expensive, and I'm happy I saved the money.

Nikon 70-210mm f/4-5.6D AF

70-210
Review Date: Oct 25, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $100.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Price!!! Just as said: you get it for steal... Best compact telephoto zoom! Reasonably sharp wide open, sharp closed down 1 stop, surprisingly sharp at f/8-f/11. Build quality - metal+glass+Made in Japan... good old days... AF speed. If 2.8 pro zooms hurt your neck 70-210 is much lighter and more compact.
Cons:
I wish it could be 80-200 2.8 or 70-210 VR... :-)))... same size, same price... just kiding...: NONE FOR THE PRICE!!!

(This review is for non D version but there is no optical difference).

I used to have it on my F-801s but had sold them both few years ago. After I bought D70 last year I relly missed more range... and just recently managed to buy an almost brand new, unused for ridiculous ~100$(!!!!!!!).
Good things are said on it at kenrockwell and it's just true :-).

If you can't afford or don't need heavy pro league 2.8 zooms and are not satisfied with 70-300 (ED or G) find 70-210, give it a shoot, and never sell like I did...

For the price of a toy you get a real Nikkor.

Highly recommended!!!

Nikon 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR

Review Date: Jul 6, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Makes ideal couple to 12-24 for digital with eq. of 180mm telephoto!!!(that's all I need...) I just compared it to Sigma 18-50 2.8 in common 24-50 range: not that bad for sharpness!!! And for low light VR is great: makes absolutelly usable images at 1/5 sec. with [email protected] mm!!! Sigma with no VR gave up (in my hands) at 1/15 sec... with [email protected] range. VR really makes 2-3 full stops advantage, that results in 24-120 f/1,8-2,8 or even f/1,2-2!!!!!!!! As an advanced amateur I just like this lens very much! Anther thing: excelent build quality - my friend's 18-70 got loose feel in same time (Made in Japan vs. Made in Thailand?)
Cons:
CA, some distorsion - but can be easily corrected. It's said some lenses are sharper - just go and try it yourself - if you'll like it, you'll love it!!!
