Review Date: Jun 20, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Razor sharpness, deep contrast, f2.8 (fast)....................................... This lens is inexpensive for the build and picture quality (i.e. a lot of lens for the money or at any price!) mfg# 548306 - EX DG macro version, 4 year warranty.
Cons:
Full frame glass is a little bigger and heavier. Non HSM motor (noise really isn't a problem.) No major complaints/problems to describe.

This lens shoots incredible pictures with a Nikon D50. Highly recommended! 82mm UV multi coated EX DG filters can be purchased directly from Sigma for $60 shipped.

Pros: (DG version) Good color, contrast, detail; light-weight, solid build quality. Good optics overall.
Cons:
None, considering the price point of $69 to $89.

(DG version) This lens is a great starter or backup lens (especially for the money). My Nikon D50's out-of-camera pictures seemed a little soft, however post processing uncovered a great amount of sharpness and detail (I was very surprised!). The softness level from the out-of-camera pictures is great for portraits etc. without PP.

Overall a good lens for the money and a great starter/backup lens!
