Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye

Pros: fun! wide! fast AF, crystal sharp, amazing colour
fogs over easily, fixed petal, lens cap, no filters

What can I say... this lens rocks. I rented it for a weekend music festival where colour was abundant and this lens captured every little streak of it. In texture shots, it still performed very well and rendered pleasing shots.

The colour saturation was mind blowing for me. Never before had I captured such intense colours from other lenses so completely. Many fall short in one or two areas of the spectrum - not this one. Reds were vibrant, Blues were strong, Yellows were punchy and everything in between was excellent.

My only real complaint about this lens is that if can be difficult to frame the shot properly, knowing that things are going to find their way into the pic that you don't want... like a dirty dancefloor.

Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM

Review Date: Sep 15, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 7

Pros: crystal clear and sharp, good flare control, good range for club/party enviro, lightweight!
slow AF, AF hunts, doesn't work well when partial metering, poor fall off at edges

I rented this lens for a weekend, hoping to get some awesome pictures. It seemed to me that this lens best excelled at end of day, when the sun was setting. That pre-twilight hour sun really allowed this lens to give that L-series pop. However, during overcast moments, the colours were flat. With flash added, the colours were better, but my results were reminiscent of a point and shoot camera.

The lens itself is surprisingly lightweight, which is a god send at 4am.

Overall, it's a nice lens, but not one I see myself buying any time soon.

Canon EF 28-105mm f/4-5.6 USM

Pros: Weight and range... i supposed.
LOL! (too many - build, price, quality, CA, BD, etc...)

Talk about underachiever. This one is horrid. Canon has made a few budget contenders, but none so bad as this guy. The 18-55, 35-80 and 28-90 all outperform this guy by a long shot.
