I still own a 5DM2 which now moves to the role of backup. The MK3 is better in every way: high iso performance, AF, menu structure, dual card slots so you can have instant backup on SD new features such as HDR. This camera is well worth the upgrade.

What is interesting to me is that the internet dialog about this camera has missed so much of its goodness. There is a sharpness to its files that pleases me; color rendition is improved; metering improved. I think what has been missed is that this is a whole new camera--not a MK2 warmed over. The changes are many and all for the good. Here are few more: 100% view finder; AF controls in a dedicated menu; side by side comparisons in playback; comprehensive flash control on the camera itself; bigger more convenient depth of field preview button. To my way of thinking, Canon produced an ideal camera--all of the goodness of the 1 Series shrunk into the body of the 5 and then some. It's too bad a lot of megapixel counters seem to have overlooked the goodness of this piece of equipment.

This is perhaps my most entertaining lens. I am using it for watch macro photography (with an extension tube). It produces fantastic images and gives me DOF that I could not have otherwise imagined. Finally I have a real reason to use live view (on my 7D) for accurate manual focus. This is a spectacular lens for my application and a real game changer for me.

Canon did a terrific job here. Remember this camera fills a crop camera niche. So forget carping that it is not FF. That's not the place this one is meant to play. I own a 5DMkII for FF and wanted the crop sensor for more reach on those occasions that need it and wanted to greater DOF for certain types of macro photography.
But in every way I can think of, this is a great step forward compared to the 50D and 40D. High ISO noise performance is much better than those two. It seems on a par with my old 5D Mk I. Resolution is terrific. AF performance is much improved--very snappy. Built in flash control something I've wanted for a long time. Movie capability. The list goes on and on.
This camera is a full 10 on all scores.

Have not yet pushed the AF performance as have shot still subjects. I guess we could always want more here.

I think this camera is nearly as revolutionary as the original 5D, which I have owned and loved for three years.
This is a sensational upgrade. Its images are stunning. At 3200 it peforms as my 5D did at 1600. 6400 is very useable. The amount of detail retained at high iso is amazing.
Love the screen and micro adjust on AF.
This is a ground breaking camera at a sensational price. I cannot understand some of the criticism heaved at it. Oh, and I have not seen any black dots.

A very nice upgrade from the 40D. Improved resolution, controlled noise, wonderful screen, and AF micro adjust. What's not to like?

I am very pleased, but would have been happier with 12mega pixels, then I am sure high iso would have been even better

I have had a 350D, 30D and 40D in the crop sensor range. I find the 50D to be very satisfactory. I am using this mainly for wristwatch macro photography and it is pulling out details that I could not resolve with my other crop sensor cameras.
If I were making marketing decisions, I would have compromised resolution at 12mp to get more resolution and easier noise control. I frankly think this camera has lower noise across the board than my 40D (notwithstanding what some reviewers have suggested).
