Disappointing revision of the Series I. Not crisp, regardless of how the photographer stabilizes it. I bought it, shot a series of tests, put the caps back on and I've never used it since.

I have shot thousands of images with my two series I 24 TS lenses. While the I is a great lens, the series II is in a league all it's own. The build quality and the thought that went into it's features are obvious the minute you take it out of the box.
Sharpness and contrast exceed the level I was expecting. This lens is worth every penny of it's considerable price.

I picked up my 800 late last week and shot a few test images on the way home. The conditions were challenging, a 100 degree Texas afternoon with heat waves that were almost solid objects. The lens performed well in those conditions, although it was confused at times between the intended subject and the heat waves, completely understandable. On the other hand, if your going for a Monet effect, you can create some incredible images in these conditions.
The second outing was a much cooler morning and closer subjects. The 800 performed flawlessly in every mode. Autofocus is fast and accurate, the character and color of the images produce by this marvel are nothing short of amazing. The lens is nicely balanced, much easier to shoot with than my 600, and I do all my work hand held.

Beautiful color reproduction, relativley fast capture and process, all the great features of my 1Ds only 1/3 larger capture and a great buffer.

The camera performs wonderfully and doesn't frustrate you with "busy" very often. The files are beautiful with natural color reproduction and incredible detail. Another great piece of technology from the folks at Canon. I'll be sporting 2 of them just as soon as my back-up comes in.

I've borrowed this lens a number of times from my friends at Canon. My evaluations have been with an eye toward adding the 500 to my arsenal which includes the 600 F4. After a half dozen extensive trials, I sold the 600 and have never looked back. The 600 is a wonderful lens but my work is almost all hand held and the difference between the two in that mode is considerable. Sharp as a tack with the 1.4, 700 on the 1Ds and 910 on the MkII ! My tack sharp keeper ratio was higher than you would ever expect hand holding a 600 but with the 500 it has doubled at least. It's worth it's weight in gold, which, coincidentally is just about what it costs.
