UPDATE! I just had a wedding session over the weekend. I totally covered the whole range with the 35L and 85L (85L was placed onto a 40D to cover the longer range). I also have a 17 40L and a 28 70L. I am going to out the 28 70 on ebay this week! the 35L is an amazing lens!
There are a couple of excellent shots on my site. http://www.haringphotography.com
Look for the blond girl and the guy on the beach in the engagement session. The wide lens was the 35L but the other pictures were created with the 85L 1.2…:):):)
I hope it helps.

good range if you happen to have a crop body
|
Cons:

not as good as the Canon L series
|
|
Don't even think about it.
The picture quality is just lifeless....:(:(:( It is better to keep the kit lens! Ok. it is not that bad but you can not compare it to the Canon 17 40 L.
I sold it and bought a Canon 17 40L. What a big difference.

Pros:
|
good range on full frame body - 17 40
|
Cons:
|
slow
|
|
The 17-40 I mostly use it for real estate photography on a 5D. I also use it for aerial pictures although it is a bit heavy for it.
For interior shots it is great because you need not worry about the F/4. It is good at wide 17, however there is distortion as you can see: www.haringphotography.com
Look for the interior pictures. I have tried to eliminate distortion but I couldn’t 100%. It is not as flexible as my 28-70mm L but the latter is not as wide either...:)

The 24-105 I mostly used it for wedding photography on a 5D. Then I decide to sell because the f/4 is slow. I bought a 24 70mm L instead. If you want to see samples: www.haringphotography.com Look for the interior pictures.

The 24-70 I mostly use it for real estate photography on a 5D. I also use it for aerial pictures although it is a bit heavy for it.
For interior shots it is not the best, I use my 17-40.
I mainly use it for real estate photography and wedding photography. If you want to see samples: www.haringphotography.com Look for the interior pictures.

70-200...:)
|
Cons:

Big, bulky and white. Can't really use it without intimidating people.
|
|
If you want image quality and magical images, buy a Canon 135L!
If you want flexibility, buy this one.
I use both of them but I use the 135L most of the time.

Cons:

Great lens! Good image quality and nice blurrrrr….:) It is hard to focus with it. It is good if your subject doesn’t move. I have a it on a Canon 5D and sometimes pictures are totally out of focus. My Canon 28-70 or 17-40 never had this kind of problem...
I mainly use it for wedding photography.
If you want to see samples: www.haringphotography.com
Look for the engagement session. Look at the blurr in the background where there is a couple at the ocean. Look at the colors!!!!
It's great for portraits, but if their is any movement in the subject the shot will be out of focus 9 out of 10 times.

I used this lens for low light photography. I sold it. I don't regret.
Nowadays I use 35mmL along with a 85mmL. Theses are much better. The 35mmL is even better on a crop frame body, I am not kidding.
Focusing is not as good as the 35mm L. I had a lot of blurry images.
You can see a few pictures in the portfolio for the engagements section:

Buy the 35mm L.

I use this along with a 85L for low light photography. Before I had the 24mmL. This is MUCH better. Image sharpness and contrast is superb. Blurr is great. Colors are amazing. It is expensive but you just buy it and try to forget its price...

The picture quality is similar to a 24-70mm....:(:(:( It is better to buy the 24 70 because you will have the zoom up to 70mm!
I sold it and bought a Canon 35L. What a big difference!

The point is that you won't see a difference between my 28-70L and this lens...:(
