Canon EF 50mm f/1.0L USM

Review Date: Dec 8, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $2,200.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: low light ability and can be handy to use in broad range of condition.
Not shape with f1.0 due to very shallow DOF.

bought it used at a image show recently. Heard a lot about poor IQ but want to check it out personally. It is very difficult to use with wide open f1.0 due to very shallow DOF. I took some pictures during the show, the images were pleasing but not sharp. Eyes were sharp but ears were not sharp. But when use with f1.2 or higher aperture, it is as good as other 50mm lenses. Because of its beautiful bokeh, I believe that it can prouce beatiful pictures in certain condition or special effects.

Canon EF 200mm f/1.8L USM

Review Date: Nov 22, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $2,200.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Extremely sharp even wide open
weight (3kg for lens alone)

Found this beauty in an image show recently. It did not have leather lens cap, but the glasses and function are perfect. No regret to purchase it.
Sharper than my EF300 f/2.8 (non-IS) and EF 200mm f/2.8II L
even wide open. It is heavier than 300 f2.8L. Too heavy for handheld shooting unless you have a big biceps.

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM

Review Date: May 16, 2008 Recommend? | Price paid: Not Indicated

Pros: Very sharp and rich color and contrast
hard to keep dust away

This is a follow-up for my previous statement. I sold my 35mm f/2 and bought 35mm f/1.4L. Both 14mm and 35mm are very sharp for their focal length. But as I said before, we should compare lenses for similar focal length for the fairness. Both serve their purpose very well. I also have 135mm f/2L and 85mm f/1.2L. I find it very difficult to use the 85mm since it has a very shallow DOFand relative slow auto focus. I am very happy to use them all, and thier are sharper than equivalent focal length from L zoom lenses. I usually carry 2 1D series mounted with prime lenses and zoom lens on my 20D. It is heavy to carry them all but I always get good result from them.
I sold my 17-40 mm and EF-S 10-22mm after I bought the 14mm. I still keep my 24-105 mm f/4L and 27-70 mm f/2.8L for general purpose on a trip.

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM

Review Date: Feb 23, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,950.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Very shape in low light too. better than EF-S 10-20.
a bit pricy but it is a new product.

ecellent wide angle lens for f2.8. It is not fair to compare with 35mm since they are not in the same category. I can not understand why there is a 7 rating. It must be a bad copy.
