Pros: Light, decent image quality @24mm, OSS, weather sealed
Cons:
Feels cheap, tele-photo end very slow (F5.6)

I have both Zeiss FE 35 and Zeiss FE 55. This lens is no Zeiss. You can't shake the feeling that you are working with a cheap plastic toy. With this said, if you work within its limitations, it is a more than a reasonable carry around zoom.

The optical strength is at the wide end (24mm) with aperture set between F8-F11. It produces beautiful sun stars closed down with completely respectable sharpness. I have found it a respectable landscape lens on a tripod. It also excels in snap shots of family photos or pressed into service as a walk around. The OSS is effective to about 3 stops (don't push your luck here). My miss rate is about 33% at this setting.

For sharpness, if you compare at pixel level against Zeiss FE 35 and 55, Zeiss have better color and sharpness (especially at edge). But the difference is small. If you are skilled in post processing, the difference is even smaller. On my A7, given the price I paid, I should be excused in believing I have gotten a bargain. If there is one lens this thing is most similar to, is the Canon 24-85 F3.5-4.5. Both certainly are not the most sharp, most expensive, or most exclusive. But in the right hand, it produces masterful images nevertheless. Also, you just can't beat the price/performance ratio.

Pros: Light weight, inexpensive
Cons:
Build quality

A kit lens, so inexpensive it drove me to buy the A7 kit instead of A7r..It is as good as the price is concerned. A very good daily and general use kit lens
