Try processing twice in Photmatix. Once with Tone Mapper and save as Tiff, then another version in ToneCompressor and save as Tiff. Open both in Photoshop and add the tone mapper as a layer over the tone compressor version. Set the layer to around 20% opacity and start from there until it looks good. Then follow your normal Photoshop processing routines. This seems to result in very natural looking HDRs.
