Thanks Yakim for the post.
I had a few thoughts on simplicity: One was a simple image with a good deal of negative space. I hoped one could see a golden mean spiral working from a clockwise fashion from the arm to should around the head and looping inward.
I was also going for the simplicity of pastoral living. I.e., using a fire for light/heat vs. more complex and urban means. Moreover, I thought the look in his eye was representative of the ideals of childhood. That a child can just sit and enjoy the flickers of flame and rising embers. While adult often cloud their heads with the distractions of work and other duties.
