It is NOT true that if a US resident buys gear from a foreign person or entity there is no duty. I have even bought Leica gear from Canada and had to pay US duty.
I recently purchased from Leica Classic Store a few months ago in Wetzlar and paid duty on the each of the items I purchased.
As for shipping to Australia/NZ. I have sold items there where the person said, Hey I know it costs to ship to me, calculate it and I am willing to pay shipping and I am also responsible for any duties too.
