Someone please correct me if I have the ID wrong. A very common little brown lizard seemingly everywhere in southern California. But spend some time with them at their own level and they're actually very colorful little guys with some interesting personalities. Some of them will scurry off immediately. Others will run off but come right back out of hiding after a minute or two. And some of them will just sit tight and try to figure out if you're a threat or not. I found early morning was a great time to chase them down as they're content to lay on rocks and logs waiting for the sun to raise their body temperature.
