Re: A7iii upgrade: A7Riv or Canon R6?

It doesn't seem rational to me: why are you contemplating between a Sony high res camera (A7r iv) and a Canon low res camera (R6/24mp)? It's like trying to decide between Canon R5 and Sony A7s iii!!! Do you need or want high res or not? I would suggest make your mind about that first then, decide on the brand/model?

IMO, A7r iv does not make sense now in your case considering what you shoot (you don't need high res). A7c ii and A7cr makes much more sense. They have the better AI AF for both stills and video as well as many other new features. If you want high res, A7cr and if you are happy with 33mp, then A7c ii. Otherwise, A7 v which should appear within a year, I think.

In the Canon camp, if it were me, I would wait for R6 mk ii and keep my current lenses. In the Sony camp, if it were me, I would switch to native E-mount lenses for the best AF performance for both stills and video. You won't loose much money by selling your EF lenses and buy E-mount lenses, thanks to all the third party lenses available for the E-mount.

There are also a number of videos on Youtube that review Sony/Canon newer bodies in regards to AF performance for stills and video. That should give you a better perspective on what to expect before committing to buy.
