Re: Good time to buy into Nikon, specifically the Z9/Z8?

The Z9 became available 23 months ago after having been announced first 31 months ago.

There is a possibility that Nikon may come up with a Z9s or Z9II before the Olympics, meaning would be announced sping 2024 and ship before the summer.

I expect it to feature the same sensor but a dedicated AF chip (possibly a second Expeed 7) and CFE4.0 support. I would expect this camera to feature some of the following:
- Even faster AF (although it's hard to imagine how it could be significantly better)
- a deeper in camera buffer
- At least 40 fps raw capture and 60 fps jpg
- Raw pre-capture
- the improved IBIS of the Zf
- Possibly a high res EVF although personally I don't feel the need for it and would prefer them to focus on 240 fps, an even reduced lag and even higher level of brightness (although the Z9 is already by far the best on the market as we speak)
- Even higher video throughput (possibly 8K60p 4:4:4 12 bits NRaw)

It depends whether you can wait and what the value of these improvements would be for you.

I may also be wrong and Nikon may not come up with any of that in 2024... But Canon has been working so hard on spreading rumors about a truly amazing R1 that Nikon design team must be working on something also to counter it.

Cheers,
Bernard
