Re: Single Eneloop and Single AA Charger?

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but just buy more Eneloops. I have about two dozen of the AA's now, I keep them charged and try to make sure to cycle them at least once a year. Don't overthink this, Eneloop are amongst the best.

I store them in Storacell devices. I have two of the 12-AA holders that I keep in my cabinet at home but I have a 4-AA holder that I keep in my camera bag. Admittedly, my flashes are all Godox and thus don't use AA's, but my Godox transmitters do. I always keep two fresh AA's in the transmitter but bring at least four extra "just in case". I think this line of thinking would work splendidly for you.

Over years of use and having many Eneloops, I think I have thrown away three or four of them. One of them I somehow forced into a weird device and it physically damaged the battery. Oddly enough, I don't remember what the device was I just remember throwing the battery away. Two of them I threw away because they got wet and rusted, that was on me. One (maybe two) of them I threw away because they literally went bad, but that was after years of use.

Get an 8 pack for $24.00, don't worry about having an even "set" or anything to that extent. You'll have 11 total, which simply means you have extras to your 8 pack. I don't worry about keeping a "set" together but some people do. I don't really know how many of these I have as I have devices all throughout the house that I have these batteries in. I don't even think about it until a device dies and it's time to change the batteries. Eneloops go into a pile in my office until I charge them.

Purchase whatever Storacell combination that makes sense to you.

As far as "letting them sit too long", these are advertised to have a 70% charge if you charge them and let them sit on the shelf for 10 years.

The thing I've seen cause me the most issues is if I leave them in a flashlight that is on. Sometimes, the device will drain a cell "too far" which means the charger may or may not think the battery operates correctly. What do I do in this scenario? I've had decent luck with putting a "broken" battery in a two-cell flashlight with a fully charged flashlight. These two batteries in series will sometimes force some juice through the dead cell (and thus charge/wake it up enough) and thus the charger will then charge it correctly.

I agree with "LH3r". My enloop chargers have 4 slots( and 1 of those chargers has Panasonic's logo on it) and the have at least 4 different series of that AA btty and never had a problem. Just used 4 of the 1st version this past Saturday and had no problems.

Thanks for the info on that other charger. Nothing like going out on a shoot and batteries are low or dead!
