When the Tamron, & Sigma 150-600 lenses became popular, Nikon stepped up with a very capable, and affordable 200-500.
Canon, at the time, had a similar design in development, but never produced it, likely for fear that it would "harm" sales of their far more expensive 100-400L, & 200-400+TC-L lenses.
With Canon, you can be sure that their bottom line always comes first, so it's doubtful that they will produce a lens to compete with "this" new Nikkor either.
