I think rendering encompasses more than contrast, MTF, and sharpness. You can have a super contrasty, sharp, high resolving lens that has heinous bokeh in many situations.
Rendering has some level of subjective-ness to it, and do my knowledge, no one has distilled it down to a purely scientific measurable quality. But at the end of the day, it's still important to many people.

Please, what does rendering mean? I see this in a lot of comments and frankly it seems like a nonsensical term in this context. Kind of like "pop". Can anyone offer an actual definition to distinguish it from measurable characteristics such as sharpness, contrast, MTF (a combination of the two previous), and flare resistance?
