Decided to post this here, rather than the repository, simply because it is about video and also, to keep this thread afloat.

Theme of this video seems to be that hybrid cameras may be the future of professional videography.

it's the jordan theme because he's not an event shooter, he has the luxury of things like staged lighting and multiple takes.

the problem with hybrid is that it's not ergonomically setup for shoulder-mount use so the eng/efp guys don't want it, and that is still a big market populated by expensive cameras like the sony hdc-5500, that goes for around $50k... that camera can be used for studio but it also has a shoulder cutout and an offset evf that is positioned mid-field to the body, like what you see the tv news crews using.

people use motorized zoom lenses for eng/efp gear like that, and so do event shooters when they use camcorders, but sony is the only company that makes ff motorized zooms, so outside of sony you can't even find proper lenses for ff hybrid event shooting... but how are you gonna shoulder-mount an a1? it's not made for that, at all.

these days run 'n gun event shooters get hired to shoot both stills and video, so where do we spend the money? buy separate stills and dedicated video cameras, or buy a hybrid and compromise with video by being limited to an uncomfortable cine-style camera that can't do repeatable slow crawl shots because there aren't any motorized zoom lenses for it?

I met Mauricio this winter when we were photographing River Otters here. He shoots a RED Dragon with a long Canon lens.

We chatted for awhile. He is impressed by the Z9 and I think it will be all I will need for a long time. We never can tell what Nikon might do next. They could bring out a patent for a motorized zoom, and that would solve that problem.

I told him it was a good idea to have plexiglass between him and those Komodo dragons he was shooting on one particular day. This was his response:

"PS- NO barrier on Komodo in water encounters.
I have clips (which I will not post) of them climbing my housing! tongue in my face…
Ahh the things we do to get a shot. "

Ain't it the truth?

Here is one of the Komodo encounters
