John Muir Wilderness | |
I returned a couple of days ago from a week-plus in the backcountry of the John Muir Wilderness in the Sierra Nevada, as part of a group of photographers and friends with whom I head to the backcountry every summer.
We were in an area mostly surrounded by very tall ridges, so we had a lot of opportunities to photograph in indirect light — areas shaded from early morning and evening sun, but also illuminated by light reflected by those tall peaks. The first photograph is a detail from a cliff above a nearby lake. The second is a rocky shoreline at the base of an immense talus field, photographed in early, soft light.
