True enough. If they badically added a correction element or made some spacing change and it got to 37 they might just call it 40. But unless they have a lot of inventory of elements from the older one around, the savings from adaptation atent tbat huge. So I hope its new, but of course we have to wait and see.

Well, 35 doesn't have to be 35 and 40 doesn't have to be 40. They could have intentionally differentiated, or it could have gotten longer enough they decided to go 40. That's a special design, I don't see it coming from scratch.

Yea, just a hunch (but a good one) that the 35 is an adapted 35/1.4, since it's not highly corrected wide open didn't change a ton. The 40/1.2 is probably an adapted 35/1.2 that got a bit longer when corrected for the Sony sensor stack. That would indeed be a pretty exciting lens.

Have you ever shot the 35/1.2? It's fun... Bery useable wide open too.

yes, the 35/1.4 will have some RSA.

This is from the English translation:

"Suitable for the name of classic, by intentionally letting the aberration remain moderately, in open, gentle"

I doubt its an adapted 1.2/35. 15% is more than you would get from just correcting for the stack, i think. And as soon as you make a few changes you may as well let your design software do it from scratch, taking into account currently available aspheric elements and types of glass. But of course im only guessing. But if it is a brand new design, as good say as the 1.7/35 from f1.7 itll be pretty compelling. And 10 blades!
