Lisa (bikini shot in the mix)

Well.... a couple of weeks ago I was able to do a practice shoot. It\'s been three years since I tried to seriously photograph people again...made so many mistakes.

This past Sunday, Lisa, a friend of mine I last shot three years ago, was kind enough to do a session with me. I made plenty of mistakes. But, the shoot was fun and somewhat of a success. I had about a 50% keeper rate, images I considered sharp and print worthy. Not all are amazing of course, just usable images. I\'ve just started working the shots and here are a few below.

We were headed to another location and all the roads were shut down due to a triathlon of all things. I stumbled upon this little city park and we made the best of it. In the bikini shots, just dumb luck her outfit matched the scene we were shooting in.

Not only was this the first real shoot in three years, gear wise, lots of new stuff to test/work with. I haven\'t shot a zoom lens for portrait work in about 7 years. Now that we can MA on both ends of the focal range, I thought I would try a zoom again. All these were with the 70-200II. So far, very pleased with the end results. I\'m still on the fence about shooting a zoom... I move more when I\'m shooting primes. Time will tell if I hang on to this lens or not.

The strobe... I sold off all my Elinchrom gear and made the move to a CL600X. It\'s a re-branded Godox strobe with HSS capabilities. The strobe lasted the entire session, never missed a beat. Color consistency was spot on! Not having to us a ND filter was FANTASTIC! Shooting 1/2000th a sec was nice! If you are in the market, give the strobe a try. It\'s just like a giant speed light with plenty of power to light the scene. The images were taken around 9 to 11 am.

So... have a look at the shots... let me know what you think.
Thanks for looking, more to come.
