i too would like sony to offer a gps unit, small, hot shoe mounted with it\'s own rechargeable battery system. i had and used the canon unit on my 5d3, and i have a handheld amod300 unit that i\'ve used for several years along with jfreidl plugin for lightroom, but the disadvantage of this method is that it only can store so many hours of track log, so on longer vacations i am forced to take along a laptop and download daily so i can then tag the photos with the track log. it is far more convenient to be able to tag as taken.
