The surprise about AF and the 70D that CR refers to is that the 70D will focus better than the 1DX and that only Rebels and xxD will get top AF from now as the new Canon responds further to the incessant cries from customers that the lower tier bodies always have worse AF.

Due to long popular outcry from Canon users about inferior AF being found in the non-1 series bodies, Canon announces today that starting with the 70D Canon\'s best AF modules will now be the exclusive provenance of our Rebel and xxD line of bodies. The new AF module in the 70D far surpasses that found in the 1DX and we expect this level of AF performance shall not trickle up to the 1 series until at least the 1DX Mark III (by which time the 90D AF will be ruling the roost).
