I'm having trouble connecting my 5D to a MBP (2.4MHz w 4GRAM) with the latest EOS Utility 2.2.0.2. I originally suspected utility incompatibility with Leopard but I am now starting to wonder if it is me since I don't see much on this in my searches.

Heres' what I'm getting:

Error
Camera is busy and cannot communicate.
Clear if camera's LCD monitor is displayed.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

I don't have a 5D, but I do have a MBP running Leopard, and a 10D, XTi, and 40D. All of mine work fine. Perhaps it's one of the communication settings on the 5D itself?

I've got Communication set to PC, is there something else I'm forgetting?

I had the same issue this weekend and luckily found an answer. Bear in mind this is a work around - not a fix which is up to Canon. It appears that the software is waiting for a "Ready" from the camera and not getting it. So the software gives a "camera window is busy" message when absolutely nothing is going on. Now whether it's the software's fault, the OS's fault or the camera's fault is moot (although I will say the 40D has no such issues) in that Canon will be burdened with a fix.
Anyway - sorry for the ramble - on with the kludge.
Run EOS utility on computer
Turn on camera
Take a "dummy" shot (just so you have something to display)
Press the play button so a picture is displayed on rear screen
Plug cable into camera - then the computer (with picture still displayed)
On the EOS Utility select "Remote control" - wait for the camera busy message.
Turn off the image preview on camera and click the ok button the message box.
Try again and it should connect.
Hope this helps - regards,
Jon

PS: It does have something to do with Leopard as it worked fine on Tiger.

BubbaJon's method works but I believe you don't even have to take a test shot, you can just press "Menu" before connecting the camera and then clearing the Menu once you see the "camera window is busy."

BINGO!

And I thought I had covered every combination. Thanks for the unlock, Jon.

Hopefully there will be a update coming soon.

Thanks Norm, that works too.

As it turns out, it also doesn't matter what order you plug in to camera or computer as long as there is something on the LCD before you do and the utility is open.

Somewhat irritating but not really all that bad after all. Thanks all for your help.

Glad you guys found a work-around. For the record, all I'm doing with my non-5D's (10D, XTi, 40) is plugging the USB cable into both the camera and mac, and then turning on the camera. After a few seconds the EOS Utility opens, and I'm all set.

Y'know - that's all I had to do under Tiger but after the Leopard upgrade it doesn't seem to acknowledge the USB plugin event. Just acts like nothing happened. Now I can see that Camera Window is activated but I get no auto launch of EOS utility like before. *sigh* sometimes I hate being an early adopter.

So what time is the EAA (Early Adopter Anonymous) meeting? :-)

Now if I could get Folder Actions to work under Leopard I'd be happy. The Hot Folder action from automator.us doesn't work for me under Leopard.
