Tonight while cruising E-bay I came across a guy, Eddie Houston - aka The Lens Doctor, in the UK that custom makes FD-EOS adapters with AF confirm chips and claims infinity focus and good quality optics. Price is rather low if they live up to the hype.

Has anyone heard of this guy or anything about his adapters? I guess he was a technical manager for Canon back during the days of FD mounts. Inquiring minds want to know.

CANON FD - EF EOS ADAPTER AF CONFIRM UK DESIGN

Just found a post here about these from back in November -

Hi,

I too am thinking about buying the Lens Doctor's FD/EOS adapter; the previous thread seems to have expired, but I wonder if Andrew or Brimo would care to comment on their experiences with it.
Any thoughts, positive or negative, would be appreciated.

If you read the description carefully you will see that there is a removable glass element in the adapter. Means - with glass you will reach infinity, without you can use your FD lens as a macro lens.

Not sure whether the Hoya glass is better than others but at the end the same system as with other adapters. At the end the additional glass will reduce IQ of the FD lens.

They also act as extenders (1.5-2x from what I've seen). Just something to be aware of in dealing with glassed adapters.

Hi,

Yes, I'm aware of both points.
However, I'm after comments as to it's efficacy from anybody that has actually used the lens doctor's adapter.

You will lose a little bit of light, making it a smaller f/stop lens at all settings. Also, it changes the focal length toward telephoto, making it a longer (extended) lens.

Everything I have heard is that the use of these single or double element glass designs degrade the lens performance.

Sorry, no free lunch.

There are a few people who rebuild the back end of FL and FD lenses to adapt to EOS bodies, with focus confirmation. Some sell the lenses on ebay with this modification. Perhaps someone can chime in with experience using these modified lenses.

I have an FL55 f1.2 and fitted an adapter bought from eBay. The guy who designs, builds and sells is Ed Mika, of Ontario ( I should be asking commission !).

He also has a couple of videos on You Tube, showing the FL55 conversion and other mods to long FD telephotos. I get infinity focus with his adapter, that is fitted by removing the original FL breech lock ring
