See my original post where I said it was "not perfect".

I agree, for the money it should have beautiful interchangeable lenses, or at least the 28050 you mentioned, but it looks like a nice camera otherwise. There also are many things left to discover about it, such as ISO performance, real IQ, handling, etc.. I'm just a fan of the size and capability to have a decent sensor (I assume) in a small camera.

What we get from Canon is far less than we should IMO, but hey, when you're a near monopoly, or part of a small oligopoly to be more precise, you pretty much don't care what customers want. You charge what you want, offer what you want, and to heck with it....

Don't forget we live in a 3rd-rate economic wasteland now with a currency barely better than monopoly money. Hence, we have no choice but to pay inflated to outrageous prices for average (in all senses of the word) goods...

Sadly, I'm quite positive I'll be one of them. I'm not HCB. Not even close.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

but i believe that's somewhat their point - with an interchangeable lens mount, you can decide to go out with just one of them on one day, and different one on the next. and when the body/sensor becomes obsolete, the lens you paid for doesn't become obsolete-by-association.

edit: thx for the explanation, brian =)

Well put. Exactly my point. I can also go with 35/1.4 and 85/1.8 (I prefer it to the 85/1.2) all day long.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Yes, but you can't put the 5d2 with a 35l attached into your pocket can you. For me, that is the difference. When I am done shooting, the camera does not become a noose around my neck.

So for you it's Ok to buy 35 f/1.4 and then carry this setup with you all day and for others it's not Ok to buy X100 because its got a fixed lens. Then perhaps you should sell all of your primes. It would be stupid to have them if you follow your logic. Consider X100 a very expensive Canon 35mm f/2 prime lens. Maybe for you the price is not Ok then simply skip it. I currently have a gap between 21mm and 85mm (talking about primes) and I need a small prime to fill that gap. X100 fills it perfectly. It would be nice to have it for less money but $1200 is Ok with me too.

The X100 weighs less than my EF 35/1.4L, and I expect it'll have equivalent IQ, except not at f/1.4. Think of that, a nice 35mm lens plus a spare body, to go with the 5D and various small Alts that I often take for travel.

The low noise at ISO 3200 and 6400, is impressive and it was not smeared away leaving no detail.

Pocketability was never an issue for me. I carry a Lowepro CompuDayPack with me at all times, even when it doesn't contain photography gear inside. If I was concerned about pocketability I'd buy a GF2 + 14/2.5 + 20/1.7 + 45/2.8 and carry whichever FL (or FLs) I fancy.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. For me it is not O.K. to buy an expensive prime lens which can only be used on one body. Others? Well, to each his own.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Shocking news! Who would expect that people would want to buy this camera? After all, shouldn't we all want the tiny little sensors Canon gives us?

Fujifilm faces shortage of X100 large-sensor camera Tuesday, 8 March 2011 18:33 GMT

Fujifilm Japan has announced a shortage of its FinePix X100 large-sensor compact camera and accessories because of higher than expected demand. The company says it is attempting to boost production to meet demand. The latest word from Fujifilm USA is that cameras will be available in the US during the last week of March or first week of April.
