I know, this is a Canon forum, but....

The new Fuji Finepix x100 looks like it could be an excellent stealth/street/pocket/fun/etc. camera and I think this is one area that Canon has missed, repeatedly...

It's a small, APS-C (should be FF) camera that looks like a retro photographer's camera, not a toy. Canon has had the opportunity to make something like this for years, and even though many have mentioned it as something that would interest them, instead we get... well, we all know what we get, and none of it is very exciting IMO (fanboys may feel differently).

I think this camera could be very competitive, especially since the closest offerings are either from Leica ($2k, feature poor, and boring) or Sigma (a little too sketchy for my tastes). We'll have to see what the real reviews and hands-on usage turns up, but I think it's going to be a success.

It's not perfect, but is anybody interested?

If early-adopter reports about the EVF (is it at least close to SLR quality in distinguishing focus/OOF/etc.) and image quality are favorable, I'll definitely be getting one.

Fuji stands to cost Leica a ton of money with the X100.

Just checked out the video. Love the leaf shutter and real dials for settings. The hybrid VF looks pretty sweet too.

I saw some sample images, and at ISO 6400 it looked better than 5d II. If this is true along with the other features and beautiful styling, it'll sell up a storm. I hope it does cause Leica a lot of grief.

For some reason I don't see Leica as a direct competitor with anyone, so I don't think the X100 will take away from the sales of the x1. People who can afford it will buy the Leica for its characteristics and the cachet of the brand. To echo what someone over on the Nikon forum said, I have a feeling Fuji will have more pre-orders for the X100 than orders for the x1 that Leica will have for the life of the product.

Eh, on the Leica forum there's a lot of conjecture that x1 owners are going to migrate away.. of course there are about 7 of us posting in that forum and a bunch who drop in.. so we are the 'working class leica fans'

I've ordered an x100.. We'll see what happens from there.. I couldn't care less who makes what (the x1 looks cool though, but that doesn't matter) - it's about what I find that 'fits' me.. as a relative newcomer - I'm still working that out.. and paying for mistakes

Am I the only one thinking "meh" at the X100?! Fixed lens and relatively high price makes it seem nothing more than a pricey toy to me [he says, while putting on flame-proof suit...]

x1 is clearly overpriced for the features it provide, just check out x100 website to see how amazing this camera is, 5fps lol, neutral density,ISO 12800, viewfinder included unlike the x1(leica viewfinder $250 lol) . I even heard that the built quality slightly exceeds x1.

Quite agree.

I just don't get how people who carry around a battery of interchangeable lenses are suddenly content with one focal length at a pretty high price - and many of them regard the 35mm equivalent focal length as 'boring'

Give it even a short range zoom and I'm interested otherwise Meh from me too

I think it will make an amazing street camera. Focal length is great. Lens speed pretty good. High ISO looks amazing. Pocketable. Real usable viewfinder. Where can I buy one.

apparently a lot of people are interested - a search for "X100" in the 'alternative gear & lenses' forum brought up 12 threads specifically discussing that camera.
