Leica's got X1 first. Then very innovative Japanese came up with X100. I hope Nikon can come up with something called Y1000.

I want something with its form factor with FF sensor, at least 12MP resolution and without video.

yea, not gonna happen... at reasonable price and size. Even M9 (if i would eat price) is so huge that i can directly take DSLR with me. Besides, what is point of always with me camera, when you are actually scared to take it always and everywhere with you

Picsies look good! (for not PPed company shots). Not really DSLR sharp, but good enough for pro use. Tried to sharp it in PP and it could go to huge prints.

At certain places, they won't let me in with that even D700 without the grip, because it looks likes a freaking professional camera.

The Nikon speedlight compatibility rumor is silly, just look at the hotshoe, the peripheral pins would not connect with a Nikon speedlight.

Still, I'm ridiculously excited for this camera.

not really silly as fuji SLRs are speedlights compatible... they meant CLS only, so maybe... we can dream :-). Maybe some hotshoe adapter for oncamera too...

Nikonrumors claims that the Nikon mirrorless system will not be targeted to pro (whatever this means) and will use a smaller sensor than APS-C. I hope they do not go on the Pentax route with a tiny sensor and interchangeable lenses.
For now the Fuji x-100 is just what many have been waiting for...

exactly. APS-C with f2 is ok, anything smaller means you are practically going P&S route.
I dont want small camera to stick DSLR lenses on it, besides that it will double (or worse) their focal length.
they still might surprise us (with 2.5x crop and f1.0 lens) but i wont hold my breath for it.

can we just talk about how cool the x100 is going to be rather than already trying to improve it?

Btw our old wacky Uncle Ken Rockwell chimes in:

"Fuji FInepix X100

Forget the Fuji Finepix X100. I just looked at this sample gallery, and the images are soft, low-contrast, lower resolution, and boring compared to my D7000, much less the full-resolution samples I share in my new Route 66 Gallery from a LEICA M9. Who are Fuji trying to kid; children who think iPhones are cool? I love Fuji — Fuji Velvia 50! Now that's photography! When you can get this from a Fuji digital camera, wake me up."

I actually really like the idea of an X100. I know I can't afford it but I would find it very useful.

Some of them do, yes. But some of them are also poor for example those at f2. OOF areas are very poor at wide apertures. If you're used to rangefinder glass; Leica, ZM or CV this is unacceptable. They need to fix it, it's nowhere near pro quality. I use a Fuji S5 and so far there's no comparison.
