Thanks, all.
Andy: Should be a fun meet next week. I will not be making the trip (but I'll get that drink from you some day ). #3....that does look familiar. She's a freshman (Corrie Lothrop, US National team member for 2006-2008, Olympic alternate in '08) for whom the coaches have very publicly expressed high expectations, now and in the future. Thanks for your comments, and enjoy next week's meet! [EDIT: I was wrong about #3, which actually is sophomore Fumina Kobayashi.]
Mark: Always good to hear from you. Thank you.
Thanks, Jerry. Those streaks must be from some kind of light sticks in the crowd (which is good news for your monitor ).
Dennis: Yes, still working for the SID/team, with a slightly better deal this go-around. Many of these meets are televised, either live (rarely) or delayed, and even when they're not televised, there are at least a couple of videographers shooting for the jumbotron in the arena. And then there are a lot of photographers, probably 10 at last night's meet. Add to that the huge red garbage cans, advertisements and other crap, and the only way to get clean shots on floor would be to shoot from a high angle that would have the mat as background. Next meet I'm pulling out the 200/1.8 to see if I can annihilate some of the garbage. As for the 50/1.4, it hangs up on occasion. Not real bad, but it's noticeable relative to the more typical 'sports' lenses. Thanks for your comments.
Hey Frank, thanks. Yeah, it was rockin' pretty good, and if the team continues to perform well, the crowds will grow. This year, the SID is linking a small gallery of my photos from each meet to the recaps she posts on the University's site within a couple of hours after each meet. So maybe that'll add some to the connection between me and the photos fans are seeing in other places.
TrojanHorse: Thanks! No photos of Bruins doing anything . Just no time to shoot both teams, particularly given that I'm there to shoot only one team.
Thanks, Andy. Good question, and I don't have an answer for you. Except for floor (which takes place in the darkest part of the arena), ISO 6400 gives me fairly high shutter speeds (1/1600-1/2000) so I'm going to take a close look at dropping down to a lower ISO regardless. And the primes give me better backgrounds as well, so there's a lot going for them except for convenience.
Matthew: Glad to hear that all your girls were there. I suspect it was enjoyable time. Hope to run into you at a women's b-ball game before this season ends (haven't been to one yet, but I'll get there....). Thanks.
10.

11. There's something about how relaxed she looks that just blows me away....even though the coach probably wouldn't be happy with this shot given that she's lost her from in her feet/toes.
