Boris, that ZM18mm is plenty sharp.

It resolves the wall paper structure on the NEX very well. Impressive.

Yes, it is indeed a great lens. Nevertherless I sold the lens (and the NEX) a few month ago. The main reason was, that I had huge problems with hand coding the lens for the M8.

I see.

I have only had the ZM18 for a week and a half. The finder (found used Zeiss 18mm finder, very lucky find ) arrives tomorrow.

Initial photos with the M9 shows that the 18mm works just fine on the M9.

On the 5N, I'm seeing reports that the E16mm has improved a lot. I don't have other wide angles that wide so I don't really know but it seems possible.

The E 16 has improved quite a lot IMHO. It was simply unacceptably soft on my NEX 5, whereas it is now a good lens on my 5N. Good for a plastic, 150$ kit lens, that is. Don't expect it to perform like a ZM 18.

Gah, it's a pity my wife and I are stuck with a NEX-3. The 7 looks tempting to both of us however.

Hm.... that ZM18 looks really good...

I have to make a decision whether I should wait for Zeiss 24/1.8 or just jump on 18/4.0....
I like a bit wider focal length, but then again the speed of 24/1.8 is also tempting....

Decisions and decisions.....

Paul, if its one or the other I say wait for the Zeiss 24 f/1.8. Yes, the ZM 18 looks great but the Sony 16 pancake is a very underrated lens IMO. It isn't as sharp, but far worth the extra $100/$150. You can get the Zeiss 24 plus Sony 16 for just the price of the ZM 18

The Zeiss 24 f:1.8 is for me a no-brainer. My favorite focal length (equiv. 36mm), fast, designed for this camera, AF.... unless Zeiss have been smoking something, it will be my walk-around lens. The question then becomes, do I get the ZM 18 to supplement it?

The Zeiss 24/1.8 should be a nice lens for the NEX, but I somehow had a good life with the 28mm Zeiss and a 100mm on FF, and that would be a 18mm and a 75mm on the NEX. Too bad that there is no 18mm/2.0 around, so I would loose two stops on the wide end ( my most used one when going to shoot buildings in town ) so I'm not sure about the 24mm Zeiss. On the other hand, the ZM35 is a very nice lens, just that I am not feeling that confortable with the FL ( never had a close relation to the 50mm on FF either ).

I've decided to go with zm18/4.0, only because I may get back to Leica system again...

Thank you for your comparison. The indoor performance of Leica can almost be considered collapse. It seems that it just didn't capture enough (color) information to bring it into life? The outdoor is almost as good as NEX.

May I ask which NEX you are using?

I used the "old" NEX 5 for the test, which I sold a few month ago. Now I'm using a M9.

Thanks for letting me know. Go back to your indoor test, I should say the green from nex is also slightly artificial.
Since it is raw from LR, could still be the sensor difference.
