Just saw this on Rob Galbraith this morning - http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/content_page.asp?cid=7-10058-11085

XEquals, a new Canadian company, has launched blueSLR, a combination of Bluetooth GPS module and companion app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad that enables Nikon digital SLRs to be wirelessly triggered from the app while also embedding location data into picture files within the camera.

I am more interested in the GPS functionality. My iPhone 4 does a lot better with GPS locking than my previous iPhone. This might a cool option for those of us that want to get the GPS functionality at a lower price.

Wow this is a very good solution if it works as described and made in Canada better yet!

I have been needing something like this for a while without breaking the bank. My order has been placed!

Jimmy, please give us a review when you get hands on. I'm interested in this myself.

Will do, I ordered the Pro version and it's expected to ship Dec 23rd so I will have plenty of time to try it out over the holidays

Well I received my Blueslr in the mail yesterday and had a chance to do a quick test on it in the house, everything functions as expected although I have not field tested it yet. The device is very easy to connect and set up, there was an issue with the device loosing connection with the iPhone but it's just a matter of changing settings in camera as stated from Blueslr support. GPS data shows up in meta data. Once I have a chance to get out and test the range and other functions in the field I will update.

A better although not Canadian solution is to use a Bluetooth GPS data logger and a module such as the AOKAtech AK-4NII. The size of the two is quite significant and I bet the blueSLR will get in the way. Also a dedicated GPS logger will have better battery life I suspect.

You won't be able to control the camera but if it is geotagging that you are after the AOKA unit works really well.

can you change any of the camera settings from your iphone like aperture and shutter speed or is it just a wireless remote with gps tags?

Since I don't like the extra bulk on the camera, I still prefer using GPS logging.
I use this iPhone app in a recent trip and I like it. IP4 battery life is quite good when 3G and data turned off.

If I need to turn on the BT on iPhone I am afraid that might drop the battery life significantly (never used BT on my iphone)

Just got my Holux M-1000C Bluetooth GPS data logger to match up with the Aokatech AK-4NII. So far so good, the cold start up is @ 30 seconds and once the M-1000C has acquired the satellite I can turn off the camera. When I turn on the camera the hot start connection time is under a second. Two separate shoots so far and this combo is working just fine.

If you order the AK-4NII directly from Aokatech the price is @ $100, they also offer combo sales which can include your choice of bluetooth device. And for a few buck's more, they'll toss in an electronic release that plugs into the AK-4NII.
