25€ is way too high for that lens! I see them here for 5€ very very often. I bought a couple of them but have been passing them up ever since. They're just not very good as 50/1.8's go. I guess that's why the ultra-low prices. <shrug> You're right about one thing... they sure are small! I'd like to add however that the Zeiss Tessar 45 is even smaller (by about half) and has a lot better IQ IMO.

I cannot help but comment about the soft contrast and desaturated colors. Could be very useful for portraits and weddings and some contrasty scenes, but they're not exactly universal lenses.

this is largly a PP-issue, the 50 1.4 sigma is _far_ away from low contrast imo.

Mine is slightly lower contrast at f/1.4 than my ZF 100/2 was at f/2. Which is to say: quite high contrast.

I second what Ulrik mentioned about sharpness. I also find that my Siggy has slightly more saturated colors than most of my other lenses.

Thanks for the clarification. That was my impression from the thread photos, having not owned this lens.

My question is, does the 50/1.4 have the same "L" quality as the 85/1.4? (good QC, no back/front focus, etc.).

The Sigma 50 has lots of people having issues with the front/back focusing. Me, I got a copy that was slightly off, sent it in. Got it back perfect two weeks later. All I was out was my time. It's one of my favorite lenses.

I really like my 50. For a few days recently I was trying to convince myself I could give it up for a Zeiss 50, but I'm glad I decided to keep it. It does many things very well, from close-up bokeh-fests, to traditional normal lens shooting, and It can produce especially cinematic images.

I had sent it in for calibration twice consecutively, and it performed very well on my 5D after that. Now, on my 1DsII, it performs flawlessly, that I can tell so far. I haven't had it miss at all yet, and I was concerned this would be an issue changing cameras.
