Instead of me hammering nails in my wallet's coffin, I rather make you do the work..
Meaning...

I am looking at few interesting lenses in 100 - 180mm range. Reason being, is that I get a fantastic view of Mt. Fuji from my work, but it's a tad far for 70 - 90mm range and definitely out of question for a WA.

I got 70-210/3.6 Vivitar and 135/3.5 SMC Tak, but obviously I would like to get some new interesting glas to play with. Additionally, would like to use it for outdoor portraits.
Another thing is that I found SMC 135/3.5 to be most difficult of allmy lenses to focus with..

Somebody recommended (sorry I can't find the post and the name anymore) Nikkor 105/2.5 (there is a 105/2.8 Micro, I believe?) Other alternatives I was thinking of are CY 135mm and 180mm, Leica-R 180 APO and Zuiko 100/2.8 or 2.0 (a little too short, but still an option) and maybe Zuiko 180/2.8 or 2.0....
My tool shed is a little empty atm, so I can't get to MD/MC or FD conversions as efficiently as I would like...
T/S adapted Mamiya would be great, but it's a little costly for now considering the Mirex adaptor price....

Would appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best Regards

Yashica DSB (or ML) 135/2.8. Entirely different drawing style than your current 135mm, very light, very nice rendering, cheap.

I miss mine.

You mention glass in a broad price range. What bodies do you shoot?

i'll put my name behind a recommendation of the nikkor 105mm f/2.5 AIS (or earlier versions) for both landscape and portraits. it might be a little short for your purposes though if 90mm is too short.

A few suggestions that I've either tried ...or would like to try:
Contax 100/2, 135/2.8
Mamiya 645 Macro A 120/4, A 150/2.8 or 200/2.8 APO - no need for a mirex adapter if you don't need tilt.
Nikon 105/2.5, 180/2.8
Leica R 180/3.4 APO

The Leica 180mm f/2.8 APO is an outstanding lens but the two above would also do quite well in my experience.

forgot to mention, the nikkor is super cheap for what you get ($50 for a beat up one, $200 for a like new one) since there are so many of them out there.

In that range I have the Contax Sonnar 100/3.5, 135/2.8 and 180/2.8, Tele-tessar 200/3.5 and 100-300 Vario-Sonnar plus Hasselblad Sonnar 150/4 and 180/4, and Canon 135L. Only the 180/4 is "better" than the Vario-Sonnar which is a truly outstanding lens.

Wow...quite an input!
Thank you all so much for the tips! I am already quite excited..

For the information, I am shooting 5D at present.
Budgetwise, I initially I would aim to part with $100-200..though if I find the good deal, I don't mind expanding the budget (in Leica or Zeiss case).
I remember seing 180 APO for about $400, but I need to double check.

Nikkors are widely available here at a very reasonable price...though, re-tracing my posts makes me believe 105/1.8 was recommended, which will of course make a difference compared to 2.5 and 2.8 ones.

Btw, how is CY 135/2..not sure if there are any MM(J) since I have only seen AE(G)...
If it's a gem, perhaps I could skip 135/2.8 MM...

I have to admit that I do love this lens, the Contax 135/2 AEG. So much so that I sold one a long time ago and eventually bought another one back. It does have CA wide open, although it is razor sharp wide open too. It's strength is that it has fantastic bokeh, A1.

Great video. I have plans on few time lapse walkabouts in Tokyo, just need to get a laptop sorted.
135/2 though in stock in one of my shops costs over 70.000yen. If it's still there for another few weeks, I might aswell pick it up...

I wouldn't recommend Yashica DSB series due to its single, i.e. poor quality, coatings. Yashica ML series is a completely different story

Funny enough, I haven't seen any Yashicas except 50mm here in Japan....

I owned the DSB 135/2.8 and I had no issues due to the single coating. The lens was very sharp and contrasty, and I recall no issues with flare, ghosting, or anything of the sort. So, while your observation may be true of the DSB series in general, I am quite confident in recommending the 135/2.8.

That is odd.

I only recommended the 135/2.8 because it is such a good value and I figured they'd be a 'dime a dozen' over there.

It is not impossible. The most lenses out there are Nikkors, FD and Zuikos followed by Pentax...but that depends on the shops I suppose. Will check this weekend...

Carl Zeiss Jena 135/3.5 Sonnar (m42) is a great lens and Carl Zeiss Jena 180/2.8 Sonnar (Pentacon 6) too. Very, very sharp and great bokeh and color.
