I wouldn't buy a lens with zoom creep even if it was 200 dollars less than a comparable one. It doesn't bother some people, so I would make sure it's a good deal (bit less than all the others) and disclose the creep. Most people will be happy to get a great lens at a good price. The ones that care will get a different one.
PS, if you DO mess with the screws, make sure to disclose that too.
I've never adjusted my lenses, but not to sound like a jerk, I wouldn't think that it would need to be disclosed.
It is a few screws and for all the more they need turned, as long as the lens is functioning in working order, I don't think it matters. Certainly if it was too tight or tightened to the point where it caused damage, then that's a problem but if it is adjusted and working, what's the problem.
You say that you won't buy a lens with zoom creep, does this mean ones that are prone to it too? For instance any heavy zoom that I know of can and will through use have zoom creep.
I would liken the adjustment to someone changing the oil in their car, it is a normal proceeds that will occur through use.
To the op, don't lower your price one penny for it. Either service it yourself, have canon do it or not do it, but advertise the product 100%. If it works, say so. If it has problems, say so.
I know if I bought a lens and it worked, I could care less of you or Elmer fudd adjusted it. B
