Nice video, but I'm confused.
Adjusting infinity focus is different than mirror interference of infinity focus.
It shouldn't take much filing of the rear element housing to get very close to infinity focus clearance of the 5D mirror.
Jim,
So I'm not fully experienced with this craft, but here's how I approached the situation.
1. Stock position of elements and the lens converted on a 5DMK2 results in no mirror interference, but only about oh say 30ft at 1.4 (at infinity on the scale). This is due to the adaptation to EOS added more material on the mount resulting in the rear element becoming further from the sensor at infinity focus (even after turning some of the SR mount and the M42-EOS mount).
2. Now I begin infinity focus adjustments (maybe that's bad wording)...maybe focus-to-helicoid calibration to bring the elements further back?
3. As I begin this I take it in small adjustments steps until my mirror collides with the rear element housing.
4. I then back off (bring the elements just a wee bit forward via the "focus-to-helicoid" calibration and then test and it wasn't great...maybe 40 feet at 1.4 (meaning I need that element further back).
5. Now starts the process of removing the housing stock on the rear element to get that element a wee bit further back into the mirror box...repeat the “focus-to-helicoid" calibration until the mirror just misses the element housing, or heck, maybe in this case the actual element because now the bulbous element is exposed (protruding) due the outer housing being turned down.
I'm all ears, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm doing something dumb
