Cool vid man! Good job!

That sure is a hell of a lot of work for that conversion though.

Great stuff!
Additional kudos for sharing!

Respect!

PS Why not document every single one in the series?...

I have no intention of converting a Rokkor but I still found the video interesting to watch. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

By listening to the video I think that's his plan.

This series ought to put almost everyone off even thinking about conversions.

Bifurcator is right, this is my plan AND I wouldn't even consider this work w/o a lathe and I'm darn near incapable of getting the mounting holes milled/drilled correctly because I don't have a mini-mill. Because of the tight spacing of the screws, I will be faced with mounting holes in the M42-EOS adapters that traverse the bayonet edges and thus I will need to mill half-holes to accommodate a countersinking bit.

Talked to Tom Hicks today on the phone...he and I both agree that a good way to go is to buy a Minolta RF camera mount that's designed to replace the EOS camera mount thus rendering the xyz digital Canon body only capable of shooting Minolta glass (of course only if you have plenty of spare Canon bodies laying around).

I sometimes see 15 or 20 film bodies on e-bay going for around $50 or less.

I bought one like that once in the Japanese auction site and all but one worked perfectly. I just wanted the 1957 Asahi Pentax body that was in the group. I donated the others to the local high-school after testing them. You might be able to get something like that - although i didn't completely understand your last sentence there - so I'm not sure how you're wanting to use them.

If a bunch of monkeys armed with typewriters can type entire works of Shakespeare given infinite amount of time, think of what a man armed with a file set, sandpaper and mini-drill can achieve..

Bifurcator , he probably meant this http://digitalrokkor.altervista.org/news.html
It's a custom-make MD flange that replaces the existing flange on some EOS bodies.

I wonder how they deal with the wide angle and 50/58mm Rokkors rear element getting in the way of the swinging Canon 5D mirror?

Maybe they just deal with Canon crop cameras...

For the 5D:
Need to remove the Plastic Support Electrical Contacts and shave the mirror of about 2.5mm

Thanks again folks. Well just did a final turning op on the rear element group of the MD 50/1.4 and even with that turned down a lot 1.3mm I still don't get infinity at 1.4 on the 5DMK2...the turning of the rear element housing 1.3mm helped a lot, to the tune of maybe only about 40ft infinity at 1.4 before turning the rear element group housing to now about 30 yards at 1.4...not really sure yet but I would say at f/11 I'm out to a clear 35+ yards.

So, full frame...sorry Charley it just ain't going to happen, unless you modify the mirror, NO THANKS! Crop body...no problem.

Regardless I'm very impressed with the IQ of this lens...here are some sample shots: http://www.motleypixel.com/forum/index.php/topic,608.msg1690.html#msg1690

Nice video, but I'm confused.

Adjusting infinity focus is different than mirror interference of infinity focus.

It shouldn't take much filing of the rear element housing to get very close to infinity focus clearance of the 5D mirror.
