I just received my converted 24-85 N lens back today from Conurus and am going to try it out this weekend. It does not have an 82mm UV or Polarizing filter on it yet. Does anyone know if this lens will require a "thin" filter? I'm hoping to get one with a rim wide enough that I can put the cap on the lens.

Waiting for mine to come back from Conurus - but the 17-35 works fine with a standard filter - most Contax lenses do tend to (naturally) vignette at open apertures and probably more the wide end on the zooms.

Mine works fine with a regular filter and the Contax lens cap.

Glad to hear it works with a regular filter. I think then I'm going to get the Hoya Super HMC filter, rather than the Pro 1 (thinner) one. I spoke to the guys at Keeble Shukat in Palo Alto and they said that the Rodenstock was the best, but that one is pretty expensive.

I suppose you mean the Contax lens hood? Lens caps will give an infinite amount of vignetting.

Thanks zombii for the info. I'm surprised that the Hoya HMC performed slightly better than the super HMC. Also, I guess this test shoots the heck out of the claim that Kenko equivalent is the same filter as Hoya? I read quite a bit about this. I had no idea Tiffen glass wasn't so good and used it on my old Pentax 6 x 7 because I would buy local and that is what they had.

AhamB - I spposed you mean filters vignette?

rsrsrs - I sent it at the very beginning of May and just got it. They said 4 months and it was about a week shy of 4 months. Bo has a demanding day job and does this on his after hours. Good news is that it used to be 6 months and now there is less of a wait. The box, sent USPS, arrived looking like a fat guy jumped on it. Usually only UPS crushes the boxes. No wonder people have flown up there to pick up their lenses. I'm going out today. My lens is MINT and I can't wait.

mine is one the way, im quite excited.

do you or somebody else use the Hoya 82 mm HMC UV-0 filter?
on this lens? is it fine?
