This is a stunning lens and is of excellent quality as you can see. Wish I had more time and opportunities to use it.
The lens bracket/mount are not for sale.
I answered your email Patrice :-)
This is becoming a better deal now, with the new 600mm coming out at an estimated $12000+ the search for 10/10 pre-owned older models of this lens is going to be very high, and prices will most certainly go up.

I don't think I could justify $12k for a lens
Thats purely conjecture, If anything the new lens might increase in price by 10% pushing the retail up close to the $9K mark but following history any lens that was replaced by a newer model depreciates in value. I find the estimate of $12K to be a bit far reaching, that puts it past the cost of the 800mm for which there is no replacement slated.

alas, not that far reaching, the new 400mm II is tagged at $11,000 , it is very realistic to guess the 600mm II will be over $12,000 , so forget the 800mm as a price "bar"
The assumption is, people looking for pre-owned lenses can't/don't want to afford a new one right? So if the price of the current one is already out of reach, the price of the new model will be a blip in the horizon, making the pre-owned version of the current model the only reasonable option, and in the retail market as everyone knows, demands drives prices. I would not be surprised to the the price of pre-owned current gen 600mm lenses go up some $500, maybe more bringing them closer to $7k
Jean, Where are you getting this information?
You have an inside line to Canon? No official prices have been released and they never have been until the day of release, so everything at this point as far as what the new prices will be is pure conjecture.
Sorry Jean but Im not buying into a 50% price increase especially on a high dollar lens. If this is true then the used market will be booming but we will all be out of luck as we wont have anywhere to get anything serviced as Canon will go bankrupt from making these lenses then not being able to sell them. I'll buy a 10%, 15% tops increase but not 50%.
They have released the specs on the 400 but none on the 600. The 400 is losing 1 element and 1 group, changing 2 elements G2 and G4 to flourite, shrinking in size by 5/8 of an inch in length same diameter but losing weight, down from 189.6 ounces to 135.8. Probably getting the IS updated as well but thats it. Noting worthy of a 50% price increase.
The overhaul on the 70-200 was more extensive, still 23 elements but went from 18 groups to 19 groups changed 1 element to flourite and 5 others to UD and a new IS assembly. Its price increase was 17% but at a much lower price range.

For the new 400/2.8, the $11K is MSRP. What is real is the street price... Canon must live by the laws of the market!
Do you care to share where you saw a price listed by Canon? They are showing the new kids on the block on their website but no price, not even a MSRP!
