Probably one of the best moon shots I have ever seen.

Very nice!

The EXIF says 50mm lens.... that's not right is it

Thanks Andy. Shooting the moon has been a learning experience that has taken longer than I expected. I have two to three other paths I want to pursue to further improve...one of them being better atmospheric conditions. The full resolution version is quite impressive, but still has a hint of noise that I want absent. The lens used was a Nikon AFS 500mm f4 with a nikon 1.7 TC + a Sigma 1.4 TC + a Nikon to Canon AF confirm lens adapter on my Canon 5D mkII for an effective focal length of 1190mm. On my D300 it would have been 1785mm, but the noise was a tad worse.

Thanks Jane! A bit of a stretch for the WA...but it was all I could get this week.

Nice shot and great processing to bring out the detail and contrast.

Care to show some 100% detail? Maybe of Tycho, the big crater with the rays and some of the smaller ones near the terminator (line between lighted and dark)?

Namlak, here is a 1000 pixel 100% crop of Tycho. As you can see there is atmospheric smearing, or motion blur, plus some noise. The view through my camera lcd (live view) was like the old Star Trek TV show viewer...wavy heat waves made focus really difficult.
I just re-shot it tonight, but won't image it until tomorrow. The air was much better tonight, and I shot lower ISO. Hopefully, it came out better tonight.
