Well I have an old Vivitar M42 TC, but it is a little smaller in diameter than the Telemore so it does not fit as snugly in the 2in rubber plumbing coupler I got at Lowes as the Telemore does. I am still playing around and also have some Raynox TCs I want to try. It may be a while since the best selection of step up/down rings I have found is from China. I am hoping rings will be a more secure connecting the TC to the MP-E 65 than the rubber thing I am currently using. Here is one of the first dozen or so images. The DOF seems strangely larger than normal and it is not as sharp as I have been able to get with other lens. Still the 65 & TC combo does seem useful. I also have some 3X and 5X TCs I am interested in trying. If anyone is experimenting with this lens and TCs please share your results.

Good one - suspect you have to use wider set apertures than normal when doing this to avoid diffraction softening.
Had a comment from another user that an old Kenko 2x MC7 TC works very similarly.

Ragebot, not bad . we don't really know yet which TC is going to work best but at this time the Telemore by Komura seem to be the sharpest. I hope we see some more samples like your with different TC . As brian suggested try shooting at a wider Fstop f 5.6 seem to be sharpest from what I have found so far. Kenny posted some shots of a dragone and he shot at f13 and they looked great. Who knows at this time.

I will definitely try opening up some. FedEx delivered the MP-E 65 yesterday so this was my first outing with it. With my Sigma 150 and my big white super teles with stacked extension tubes I almost always shoot at f16 or higher (with a 1d4 or 1d2). I know that is a little past the diffraction limit, but seem to get better results there.

The 65 seems to have a fairly steep learning curve and my current lighting setup is for lens with much longer MFD so I have to deal with a different lighting set up as well.

What I really need is a book like "MP-E 65 For Dummies".

Getting a little more experience with the Vivitar and the 65 and it seems like opening up to 5.6 seems to be helping

Still trying to dial in the best shooting style for the MP-E 65 and a TC. I am using a Vivitar 2X from my film days, but I do have a Telemore I just got from eBay. I like the Vivitar because it does not have the little silver thing sticking out of the side so it fits in the rubber tube I am using more easily.

I have started shooting at f5.6 but am wondering how you guys with more experience are exposing. My images seem to have good DOF and not have diffraction limitation problems at 5.6. I have included the EXIF stuff with this image and hope some of you smart guys can offer advice on how you would change the exposure. Lighting is a little harsh for my tastes, but right now I am more interested in the best sharpness for the image. Probably should shoot at ISO 200 at least, but I was trying to get a flying wasp and bumped it up to 800 and forgot to change.
