I have this inkling that you may be over-thinking your needs when you are comparing the D500 to the E-M1.2. Sure, the D500 is far superior when it comes to AF acquisition and tracking action ... but how much BIF work are you planning to do really? I know a lot of photographers who shoot mostly birds and BIF and only occasionally shoot other stuff. If you are anything like me ... I do maybe 20% birds/wildlife (of which maybe only 5% BIF); 75% travel and landscape work; and approx 5% portraits ... the E-M1.2 serves me rather well. But if you are seriously planning to get into bird and BIF photography in a big way, like Tony Markle, I would definitely recommend the D500 + PF 300/4 and/or 200-500 lens. Horses for courses.

It's funny how someone across the other side of the ocean, with whom the only conversation has been through the internet, can know someone so well and be so right
You inkling feeling (thanks for teaching me a new word!) is completely right. I am overthinking it, much due to the fact that I have missed focus on birds of pray on two occasions now and I rather blame the gear then I do my lack of knowledge of shooting birds. The two occasions have been my only two occasions trying so I have lots to learn and rather then changing system it's better to freaking learn it.
And yes, I am planning on shooting lots of things just as I do today but I am also planning on doing a whole lot more wild life and bird photography. Looking through many of the birds and wild life threads I see lots of stationary subjects though and this alone is reason enough to know jump the ship because of one single factor (AF).
I know the E-M1.2 serves you very well, as does the 1.1 me! I should just put the money in a longer lens if anything, or maybe the 1.2.
Thanks for being a voice of reason
