Had a slight brainwave and had a look at a very cheap 58MM ND filter I had. Noticed it had a 58mm retaining ring in it which I managed to remove. Quick bit of locator pin removal from the front face of the telemore and I then just superglued the filter retaining ring to the the front of the telemore.

Much easier now to go to near infinity focus.
Shot of the setup and a focus series.

New setup (looks a bit neater)

Pretty slick, Brian. Does look much neater, too. Necessity, as they say, is the mother of invention.

You know the shots closer to infinity with this setup have a look very familiar to vintage glass at ~ 50mm and open aperture such as f/2 or f/2.8. For example I've shot an Olympus Zuiko 50/1.4 at 2.8 and infinity and they look a lot a like.

Thanks for the comments Kenny and Roy

Roy the DOF/aperture settings are really odd for this combo - think the MPE-65 retains the same apparent aperture settings as if the TC was not there, but it's good enough to use the MPE-65 as a walk around macro lens. It just feels all wrong to be able to focus on infinity with this lens when you are so used to the 4" max focus distance.

I would give my kingdom to have access to some hoverflies and flowers about now, in the middle of my Northern New England winter! Apparently "Old England", or at least select areas, has at least 10 months of flowers and bugs!

I live adjacent to the sea, but the North Atlantic is mostly frozen in the bay where I live in southern Maine...

Phil - have certainly found a few hoverflies about now but not the flowers you see in these pics taken last year.
