p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Emoticon Inchworm

Earlier today I started out to photograph a couple of sunflowers we'd had around for a couple of days.... worked out OK...

But then I became interested (aware) of the micro ecosystem that existed on the flower. At least a couple of different crab spider on each flower as well as several (at least 3 or 4) different types of inchworm/caterpillars. I particularly liked this little (these shots are at 2:1 roughly except for the cropped one) pearly coated one which had a sad emoticon literally all over it.

Side View of little one:

Bigger one that was "stretching" out:

Crop of the "sad-face" emoticon:

All shot with my $20 macro (reversed Nikon 28mm f2.8) which I was very happy with since it nicely resolved individual pollen grains.

If by #1 you mean the actual sunflower shot, I'm glad. I was going for SUNflower and I think it's nicely solar.

Lovely series- took a while to see the sad faces but got there in the end
Assume that is pollen sticking to the caterpillar.

Tom,

I got to say that the $20 series E 28mm if probably the best photo "investment" that I ever made. With a bag per buck which is off of the charts. Who cares that it a pain in the butt to shoot with, and completely inflexible when it comes to shooting distance... it get you close and sharp.

The only problem I'm having with this lens right now is justifying even thinking about purchasing a 105mm vr for 40 times as much as I paid for this beauty!
