Melissodes--My first one. I actually accidentally stumbled upon two of them sleeping on a sunflower around 1AM...wasn't planning on shooting but given this opportunity I couldn't pass it up. I tried the 5D initially but it did not play well at all with my light rig, and so I busted out one of the 40D's. Glad I did

Thanks, Mark. Yes, I used a flashlight (AKA Torch) that has a built in tripod and three articulating heads.

Actually....yes I was

It started with me questioning if I had the correct backdrop in the car for the next days shoot--so me being me I had to check immediately. Little did I know I'd be outside shooting for another 1/2hr or so

Fantastic shots! What is real funny is that we use the EXACT same flashlight to search for bugs at night. I actually use the modeling lamps on my MT-24EX for focusing but the flash light for searching. I guess that means we were both out at the exact same time with the exact same flashlight doing the exact same thing?

What a bee! those antenna are wonderful. My husbands always finding me treasures to shoot at night,( that's one positive of him smoking outside

) The yellow bed the bee finds itself in makes for some beautiful background colour. Thanks for sharing the torch! looks very handy.
