p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Macro Videos?

After coming back from a shoot having both an SLR with a macro lens and an HD camcorder that won't focus up close and wanting to combine the two, the idea of putting two and two together and getting an SLR that shoots video and mounting a macro lens onto it sounds *very* appealing.

How many of you have experimented with macro video work? Do you have any cool examples to share of what you captured? How easy was it to stabilize your camera to create steady videos?

I know Liewwk here takes macro videos - some in his flickr collections

I suspect both camera stability and available light are both big problems.
I've only tried it a few times and found having to use liveview to focus with a handheld camera was very hard for me.

What about this situation...

You're shooting some insects who like to walk along grass blades and so you set yourself up on a tripod parallel to a grass blade so that focus issues are minimized. Stop down as needed.

Shooting video, I think you can get by with shutter speeds in the 1/30-1/50 range, far slower than if you were trying to freeze a single still image. This fact alone should help tremendously.

Even at, say, f16 or so, you should be able to manage in bright sunlight, no?

Here is a nice macro video.

Note that the subjects and overall approach is much different than most of the shots you see taken as still photos.

Just a quick bump to bring this back to life and see if anyone else's shot some more macro videos.
