Yup, smoothest I've used... and a perfect throw for following people motion too! Plus close focusing and shaaaaaarrrrp! Oh, not to mention a very pleasant and painterly bokeh! I really like Takumar lenses... from 28 to 200 so far all of them. What's more, they cost next to nothing - comparatively.

I bought the 50/4 macro, and also decided to grab the 55/1.8 from the same seller for not too much extra. Seem pretty nice... And I have wanted a standard macro for a while.

Sounds pretty cool! I haven't seen any Takumar macros yet. Is it shaped much different than the 1.8?

Yes, it is similar to the Canon 50mm Macro in that the front element is very recessed. So far that I see no need for a hood in fact.

Kewl! Now I have to go track one down! Sounds neat!

Yeah, the Micro Nikkor 55mm 2.8 is recessed like that too. Probably all 3 share extremely similar designs.

Here's some more of the 28mm f/3.5

I really like the sharpness and color of this lens. Almost none of these (above and here) needed to be sharpened at all. So most were just converted from the raw straight to jpeg. Typically shooting wide open means that the image will benefit at least some by sharpening but with the 28mm Takumar this doesn't seem to be the case. This is true with other Takumars too. Ancient Pentax users knew this? What, they just kept it to themselves or something? :P

Bifurcator,
The 28/3.5 is praised by many pentax users. However, I think your GH1 helps a lot in the sharpness department as well. Do you have a 35/3.5? That little one is a great little secret.

Yeah, post #2 on the previous page is the 35/3.5 https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/910305/5#8880277 And I agree, it's very nice too! I get some corner smearing with it though. I dunno if it's the GH1, my copy of the lens, or something else tho. It's for sure the cutest of the Takumars!!! https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/910305/5#8881613

It's not so much a secret as a great little lens with mirror issues. Canon FF mirrors hang up on it at infinity (IIRC even the 1-series do) so it doesn't get the love.

Superb and tiny lens though, I've had two and quite like it.

Is there a "Super" or "SMC" version of it? Mine is "Auto".

Well, if it's not I hereby declare it officially allowable! Besides, I've used the same phrase several times already in describing both the Takumar's and the Rokkor's bokeh. So if they don't like it they can lump it. Hehe...

Thanks for the comment too!

I agree its much like a painting in the background, Very similar to my 55/2, I love how smooth the transition is from sharp details to buttery smooth bokeh.

Wow! This thread is getting me pretty excited about using an SMC Takumar 50/1.4 that I just got with a Pentax ES. I've used the Super Tak 50/1.4 on a Pentax Spotmatic, but would like to try using the SMC Tak 50/1.4 on my 7D. What adapter would any of you recommend?
