It was my daughter's birthday today and cheesecake is her favorite. I got her this individual one made with Bailey's Irish Cream. She is 19 today, and just finished her first year at university.

Would asking for slightly more breathing space be nit-picking?

Nice entry steve, but the lighting bugs me a bit. Little too hot on the right, and too dark on the left, IMHO.

Not a bad point, Yakim. I tend to like tight shots, but I will see if I cropped a bit--I can't remember--and can give it a bit more breathing space. My daughter ate it already, so I can't reshoot.

Hi Kurt,

Thanks for your take on the lighting. This was actually shot with window light. I like the natural light, and don't find it harsh, but there can certainly be more than one take on that.

Delicious dessert. I do think the crop is a bit tight, and all the space to the right is not doing anything for the image. Crop even more dramatically maybe? Don't need to send the entire dessert; sometimes less is more (unless you're eating the dessert, of course!). :-)

Well I couldn't crop any looser--the first shot was full frame--so I took Bev's advice to crop tighter. I think I like it better. Thanks so much for the advice Bev and the comments triple Y.

While I like close ups (I shoot a lot of macro), this one is a step too far for me. Sorry.

I like this one better, Steve. Might not hurt to have a little more on the bottom to show just little more of the cream colored dessert. The emphasis on the chocolate is great though.

I always appreciate your thoughtful and frank reactions. They are very helpful. This may not be my best work, but I haven't participated for awhile and wanted to try. I tried a new crop based on Bev's advice. Perhaps it is a bit better now.

That one looks a lot better. You can see the base cracker the cheesecake and the chocolate decoration on top is still the main feature. Nicely done....
